What factors discourage you from investing time on XAML and Silverlight? Silverlight developers in the Philippines are rare and hard to find. Looks like it has a potential to be lucrative.

Microsoft Shifts from Silverlight to HTML 5.

Excerpt:

Despite the prevalence of the .NET platform on Windows (Windows) and in the enterprise, Silverlight has had a problem gaining traction across the web. With the exception of the Olympics and a few other live broadcasts, you almost never see Silverlight used on the web

one, you won't teach me. is there a silverlight group philippines yet, like phrug is to ruby on rails or phlug to linux?

two, most people develop flash websites, or php-mysql based opensource systems.

three, it requires training. like number one, you can't be "good" unless you have certificates in microsoft this and microsft that all over your name. the training cost may be high, i'm not sure if dbwizards even has training.

  1. Because I know Java more than .Net and ActionScript looks a lot like Java. :)
  2. Because Flash Player has better market penetration and Flex has a more mature API than Silverlight and JavaFX.
