Sooo I just finished my last project for the year and I'm looking for a pet project that would keep me busy coding for the x'mas season. At least it'll keep my attention off the food and allow me to do something fruitful (no pun intended :D).

Mind sharing your current pet projects (or "sideline") as suggestions?

I'm a Java, Rails guys if it helps.

I have like 9 personal projects screaming for time and around 3 major projects at work and a bunch of little more. I would suggest to keep a list may it be on a paper, your cellphone, Google calendar or what have you to keep your ideas intact.

More often than not I write tons of ideas, some are great and some are not. Some ideas have already been created by other people, some ideas are still technolocially impossible and is still waiting for the needed technology to ripen.

I envy you that you have such time to do stuff like that. I wish I was this organized while I was in college so at least I could have made the most out of my time and my ideas.. If you keep your focus on ideas you think about, you might end up with a breakthrough project coded on your spare time..

Good luck on your Christmas break coding!

I'd say something similar to what Pogz said.

Right now, though, I'd like to keep my pet project ideas to myself. =p

Mmm... I haven't really thought of writing things down as most of my pet projects have been spur of the moment :D

Thanks for the tip though. While browsing some of my Java books I thought of something (quite a few somethings actually :D) interesting to work on :D

just Google your ideas first, someone might have already done something similar or theres already an opensource project. You might want to either check sourceforge or Google Labs directly since most of the projects are hosted in sf or already being done in Google Labs

and yeah nikki erwin is right, share your ideas to only your trusted few. you dont want other people stealing your ideas. choose even your mentor wisely.

Originally I wanted to continue working on my Special Problem during college which was basically a call center scripting tool. Originally it was built AJAX-PHP, but after learning about adobe flex and salesforce, i had this idea of porting it to that "platform", haven't had the time though.

Also I'm trying to learn to code in Android, aiming to create something special...A CRM SFA system, basically somewhere along the lines of salesforce..something like that...can't really describe it in detail now...all abstractions, no details...haha
