The Freedom of Information bill, if enacted to law, will require government agencies to publish their data on the web (e.g. transactions, research data, etc.). This would allow for more scrutiny. A recent article on opening government data [1] has stressed the need to prioritize which data gets posted online and for a user community built around it.

What type of data do you think our government should spend its resources to get online first?

Government expenditure reports would be good start. Tax payers would want to know how their money is being used by the government and we can scrape that data and get a lot of information such as project budget allocation, the periods wherein spending is at its peak and for what cause, and which departments are incurring deficits.

The following would be my picks.

  1. national statistics office
  2. commission of audit
  3. department of budget and management
  4. bureau of internal revenue
  5. bureau of customs

would be my picks.
